MAKE IT MONDAY - Find the kickoff story video for this week's engineering challenge HERE. The Story is The Little Red Fort. {Thank you to Scholastic Publishing for allowing me to read aloud to my students during COVID-19 Stay Home.}
This week we are going to focus on Forts! {Did you know that Fort is short for Fortress? Can you think of a fortress that you might know? Think castles, military forts, old historic forts. Did you know that there is even a fort on Mackinac Island? Watch the Make it Monday Video HERE - This video will walk you through what you want to think about before building a fort this week.
1. Create a plan for your fort as explained in the video.
2. Make sure you talk to an adult about your plan, and make sure they approve it!
3. Build your fort from materials found around home. {Think - recycle bin and linen closet!}
4. {optional, but I can't wait to see your IDEAS!} PRESENT YOUR WORK: Open the Google Slide for your grade below and edit the NEXT slide. Insert a picture of your creation, as well as your name and teacher name. If you are collaborating with a family member, be sure to share it in both grade level slide!

THINK ABOUT IT TUESDAY - Why are "real" forts built? What are large forts usually made of? What are some other characteristics that they usually have in common? What are some famous forts? What forts can you visit in the state of Michigan?
WATCH IT WEDNESDAY - Check out this video of fun science experiments: HERE . This week we are going to be making "things that fly" - we used mostly paper and tape, and created some really fun things that fly!
THINK ABOUT IT THURSDAY- If you are building a fort that you can sit inside, and it has 4 walls and 1 ceiling, if you use one sheet for each, it will take how many sheets to make this style fort? Now imagine that you are using square sheets, that are 4 foot by 4 foot. What is the surface area of the sheets that you are using to make your fort?
FIND IT FRIDAY - Looking for something fun to end the week, check out this fun fort themed scavenger hunt!
